Things so accustomed to our lives that they no longer trigger any resistance or conscious awareness; electronic devices that are now implanted in our bodies. I explore and observe these things to transform the familiar into something unfamiliar, through which I attempt to create a momentum for acquiring new senses and perceptions.
“Orchestra Jewelry Approach” is a project that manifests from the observation of our cognition on fixed objects. It is a work that deals with the expansion of self-expression on various internal, and external stimuli—including one’s emotions. It is a new approach to the perception of an accessory. Starting from a small object, the work attempts to imagine the world and excavate the future.
For a long time, the human race desired to present oneself as a special entity. Such desire has been expressed through various means and materials of making jewelry. Hoonida_Labs traces the transition of the existing concept of visual jewelry serving as a tool of self-expression to the new concept of expanded aural jewelry enabled through technology. From this transition, the project suggests a new form of a jewelry pursuing a new aesthetic possibility.
I have created a prototype in the form of a self-expressive aural jewelry based on the gestures of the body. The product consists of jewelry that controls the aural-tactile sensation with a sensor, and a smartphone app that creates the sound in sync. “Orchestra Jewelry” creates sounds following the movement of the hand wearing it, and in turn gives feedback to the skin through haptic vibration.
When people gather in one space wearing the “Orchestra Jewelry,” each of them will make sounds through their smartphones. A 360-degree organic layer of sound will be created, where the body movement and sound will be fused. “Orchestra Jewelry” is both a sound performance creating a dynamic orchestration of sound and a self-expressive aural accessory.

저항감 없이 익숙해져서 의식하지 않고 사용하는 것들. 그리고 우리에게 임플란트 되어가는 전자기기들. 나는 이런 것들을 탐색하고 관찰하여 익숙했던 것을 익숙하지 않은 것으로 변용시키고 그로부터 새로운 감각과 인식에 대한 생각을 하게하는 계기를 만들고자 한다.
“Orchestra Jewelry Approach"는 고정된 사물에 대한 인식을 관찰하며 발현되는 프로젝트이다. 감정을 포함하는 다양한 내적, 외적 자극에 대한 자기표현적 확장을 포착하며, 장신구에 대한 인식을 새롭게 접근한다. 작은 오브젝트에서 출발하여 세계를 상상하고 미래를 발굴해보려는 작업이다.
인류는 오래 전부터 자신을 특별하게 포장하려는 욕망을 가져왔다. 그러한 욕망은 장신구를 만드는 방법과 소재를 통해 표출 되었다. Hoonida_Labs는 자기 표현의 역할을 했던 기존의 시각적 장신구가 테크놀로지에 의해서 청각적 장신구로 확장되었을 때 발생하는 또 다른 감각과 미적 가능성을 찾기 위해 새로운 장신구를 제안한다.
신체의 제스쳐를 기반으로 하는 자기표현적, 청각적 장신구의 형태로 프로토타입을 제작하였다. 프로덕트는 센서로 청촉각을 컨트롤하는 쥬얼리와 이와 연동되어 소리를 구현하는 스마트폰 앱으로 구성되어 있다. “Orchestra Jewelry"를 착용한 손의 움직임에 따라 음이 발생하고 착용자는 그 피드백을 진동(햅틱)으로 피부에 전달 받는다.
“Orchestra Jewelry"를 착용한 사람들이 제스처를 이용해 각자의 스마트폰으로 소리를 내면서, 한 공간에서 360도 유기적인 소리의 레이어가 형성되고, 몸짓과 소리는 하나가 된다. 본 프로젝트는 다양한 동적 오케스트라를 만드는 사운드 퍼포먼스이자 자기표현을 위한 청각적 장신구이다.
