I sometimes stop the way I am going in my daily life and listen to my surroundings. I usually think of it as a very ordinary and mere noise, but I think that these sounds represent the livingness of the space alone. Thinking about things that exist only there, created by accumulation over a long period of time. Among them, those that are being erased in an instant under the name of “urban regeneration”. I wanted to hold onto it, so I recorded environmental sounds that seemed to disappear soon as digital data, and lengthened the temporality like a little bit. A player was created to play. As the first work, “Euljiro Player” turns a dial like a radio. Find the sound in the recorded alley. As soon as the dial is hit, the duration of the sound in a specific alley is lengthened, and it sounds like a dreamy piece of music. And when you get closer and observe, the sound becomes more specific.
을지로 플레이어 (beta) : 사라질 수 있는 소리들
나는 가끔 일상에서 가던 길을 멈추고 주변에 귀를 기울인다. 평소에는 지극히 평범하고 한낱 잡음이라고 생각하지만 그 소리들이 그 공간만이 가지고 있는 살아있음을 나타내는 것이라고 생각이 든다. 오랜 시간에 쌓임으로 생성된 그 곳에만 존재하는 것들에 대해 생각. 그것들 중 “도시재생”이라는 명명하에 한순간에 지워져 가고 있는 것들. 그것을 붙잡고 싶은 마음에 곧 사라져 버릴 것 같은 환경음들을 디지털 데이터로서 기록하고 시간성을 길게 엿가락처럼 늘려서. 재생하는 플레이어를 제작했다. 그 첫 작업으로 “을지로 플레이어”는 라디오처럼 다이얼을 돌리면서. 기록된 골목에 소리를 찾는다. 다이얼이 맞는 순간 특정 골목에 소리의 시간이 길게 늘여져, 마치 하나의 몽환적인 음악처럼 들린다. 그리고 가까이 다가가 관찰하면 그 소리는 더 구체적으로 다가온다.
