기술이 촉발하는 생태계의 변화에 주목해 온 후니다 킴은 엄청나게 많은 정보가 쏟아지는 오늘날의 상황에서, “정말로 우리 자신에 맞게 무언가를 튜닝하고, 체화하고 있는지" 질문합니다.
파인튜닝fine-tuning이란 인공지능 모델을 학습할 때, 가중치를 변형하고 미세하게 조정하는 모든 과정을 의미하는데요. 작가는 거대한 기술의 가속화 속에서 몸을 ‘도구’로 방치하는 것이 아니라, 정보를 습득하고 재해석할 수 있도록 파인튜닝이 필요함을 강조합니다. 은 사유체로서 기술을 바라보고, 인간의 신체 감각을 다시 한번 파인튜닝할 수 있는 관조의 시간을 만들고자 합니다
이번 프로젝트에서 관람객은 퍼포머와 장치의 상호작용을 관찰하고 추적하며 실시간으로 파인튜닝되는 데이터를 감각적으로 인식할 수 있습니다. 이번 프로젝트가 제안하는 ‘파인튜닝의 시간’을 통해 신체 감각과 세계를 인지하는 방식을 사유하기를 바랍니다.
Hoonida Kim’s new live performance, ‘Fine-tuning Human Senses’ will be unveiled in *-lab 7.0. Kim has been focusing on technology that deeply penetrates through the human ecology, as well as the transformations in ecology triggered by technology.
In the past, humans have recognized, sensed, and acquired information through their bodies and tools. Tools have developed to extend and sense human senses more delicately. And we now have a digital extended sense of the body. It has evolved in the direction of seeing and feeling more by putting on a ‘Prosthesis of Senses.’ The body equipped with new tools reads and interprets more quickly, but the more it relies on the prosthetics of the senses, the less the power of the body’s senses. In other words, the human body does not recognize the environment independently. It exists only as an organ that accepts information, leaving only the eyes, ears, and fingers.
Fine-tuning Human Senses is an attempt to reconsider sense, body, and technology. In technical term Fine tuning refers to the whole process of deforming and tuning weights finely when learning an artificial intelligence model. Instead of leaving the body as a “tool” in the rapidly developing technological era, the artist emphasizes that the body should be fine-tuned to acquire and reinterpret information.
During this performance, the performer will wear “Datascapes” as an “environmental recognition apparatus” made by Kim, and read the data from the structures placed in c-cube. At the same time, the audience are following the performer including Datascapes, observing their interaction, and finally recognizing sensitively fine-tuned data in real-time.
At last, Fine-tuning Human Senses is expected to offer the chance of fine-tuning your sense as well as reconsidering to perceive the world through the body.
